The following are excerpts from a MoveOn.org email I recently received. Yes, I receive MoveOn email alerts. It’s handy to get the pulse of the radical left.
Dear MoveOn member,
My name is Cyntoia Brown-Long. You may have heard my name on TV, social media, or if you’re one of the over 636,000 MoveOn members who signed a petition calling for my release from prison. But I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you my story myself and to say thank you.
I am a survivor of child sex trafficking. In 2004, at age 16, I was sentenced to a lifetime in prison for shooting one of my abusers in self-defense.
According to Wikipedia, “Brown said that Allen had paid her $150 to have sex with him, and that she feared for her life during their encounter, leading her to shoot him. Prosecutors argued that Brown killed Allen in order to rob him. Brown was found guilty and sentenced to 51 years to life. After renewed interest in her case in 2017, Governor Bill Haslam of Tennessee commuted her original sentence to 15 years.”
She was released from prison in August, 2019.
I‘m not here to argue her case one way or the other. She’s out and I wish her well. If what she said was true, than good riddance to Mr. Allen.
It’s the irony that floored me. This is MoveOn.org, and well over a half a million radical leftist members signing a petition to free a person who SHOT someone – WITH A GUN!
Let me repeat that for any leftists who still don’t see the irony in an organization that, among every other wacky leftist cause, is also virulently anti-gun: This woman SHOT someone with a GUN!
These are the same people who would likely petition for the imprisonment of a home owner who shoots a burglar trying to rob their house.
MoveOn.org is known to be as far left as one can be, and proudly so. They support every far-left cause, including gun control, yet they stand up for a shooter and aid in her early release?
For those who still don’t see the irony – we all know, that if the left, MoveOn included, were honest, they would admit support for the confiscation of all guns. And we can therefore surmise that, if they had their way, this woman, assuming she’s telling the truth, would have had no way to defend herself and would have ended up a victim of violence, or a statistic.
Here’s an example of a recent MoveOn “Commonsense” gun control petition.
We need commonsense gun control now, including the following:
* Ban civilian ownership of weapons designed for warfare, including assault weapons.
* Close the gun show loophole.
* Limit high capacity ammunition magazines.
* Create certificates of ownership for firearms, similar to automobiles, which should be governed by similar regulations, including the need for training, testing, and insurance.
And if that isn’t bad enough, the petition added … “How many more innocent victims must die at the hands of an antiquated and oft-misinterpreted amendment?”
Regardless of how the left couches their terms, calling for “commonsense” this or that, the truth is eventually revealed, as it is in the last sentence, describing the Second Amendment as “antiquated and oft-misinterpreted.”
In effect, MoveOn is declaring the Second Amendment, as well as the Constitution, has had its time, but now it’s our turn.
Funny how a group like this can back a convicted gun-wielding murderer. At least I thought it odd.
